How to update your Nextcloud server address (without re-syncing files)

Only the server domain (URL) has changed.

Your files, account, and data remain the same.

You do NOT need to download everything again

💻 For Desktop App (Windows / macOS / Linux)

Follow these steps:
1. Pause or close syncing
Open the Nextcloud app and pause syncing (or fully exit the app)

2. Remove your current account
Go to Settings → remove your existing account
(your local files will NOT be deleted)

3. Add account with new server URL
Log in using your new server address

4. Select your existing sync folder
Choose the same folder you used before (with your files)

5. Confirm and continue
The app will scan files and match them with the server

📱 How to Update Nextcloud Mobile App (iOS / Android)

For mobile users:
  1. Log out of your account
  2. Log back in using the new server URL
That’s it — your files will reconnect automatically.

⚡ What Happens After Reconnecting?

The Nextcloud client will:
  • Scan your local files
  • Compare them with the server
  • Sync only differences
🚀 This means:
  • No full re-download
  • No duplicate files
  • Much faster than starting from scratch
⏳ If you have a large amount of data, the scan may take some time — this is normal.
